Guidelines to participate in the network AT fosscom.in

Guidelines for the Moderator:

Whoever takes up the moderator role, moderation action be carried out privately with the 'alleged offender', and explain your reasons by pointing out to the "guidelines to the poster" below. Do not use 'terse' language, moderation is an expensive job. again: do spell out the reasons, provide links that explain the reasons etc. If you have no time to moderate, do not take up the moderator role, or remain silent or ignore, orphan the post and poster. Please give 3/4 warnings before taking any serious action like, blocking the user from posting, adding the poster in the watch list etc. All actions taken should be informed to the community by posting the action and reasons.

Plus, have the moderator rotated periodically. That way, the list will be enabled to have preferences, for which moderators would then compete.

Guidelines to the Poster:

  1. These guidelines should be followed strictly. These guidelines are required to make list communication efficient.
  2. Posting articles or news items, please send a link accompanied by a brief description. Do not post a copy of the whole story. The link is adequate. Make sure you do not violate the original articles copyright and linking rules.
  3. Do not post to individual email ids. Since everyone is subscribed they will receive your mail.
  4. Do not cross post (ie, do not address more than one mailing list in one mail).
  5. Do not repeat a post. If you have not recieved an answer, it means either no one is interested or your post lacks important details.
  6. Do not top post. Reply below the original mail and keep only relevant parts of the original message.
  7. Use plain text. Avoid using html. Html adds lots of hidden characters (known as tags) without (usually) enhancing the information.
